Frequently Asked Questions

 Who can join?

All branches, ranks, and genders are welcome, as well as both active duty and retired spouses. If you have questions about joining, reach out to Kelli at membership@scfsh.com

Can I try it out before joining?

Yes! You can join us at one luncheon as a guest if you'd like to come check out the club before paying the membership fee. Reach out to Summer at president@scfsh.com and she can help you out with that.

Each August we kick our year off with Super Sign-Up, and that event is open to everyone! You can come check us out, ask questions, and see if you'd like to join us.

Why does it cost money to join?

We are a non-profit run by a board of volunteers. A small annual membership fee helps cover our minimal overhead.

How much do luncheons cost and what do the fees go toward?

Luncheons range from about $15-35, but most are around $25. We do not profit from our luncheons, and the cost of each one is just what the venue is charging us per plate. You won't need to purchase anything else at the event (unless you want to). Occasionally we even cover a portion of a luncheon at the end of the year if we have a surplus in our budget.

How much of a commitment is this?

There is no minimum expectation of our members. Some members only go to luncheons, some only go to Sub Clubs, some do it all, and some just come every now and then. We would love to have you, however often you want to join us! There is no commitment or minimum you have to meet to be a part of the Spouses' Club beyond paying the $35 registration fee to join. You can join and then never come to anything the rest of the year, although that would make us sad.

Can I be a part of the board?

Joining our board is a great way to get involved and meet new people. The board is full of wonderful women who work really well together and have a lot of fun, and we'd love to have you join us! While we occasionally have an opening mid-year (we currently have an opening for Ways & Means!), opening board positions will be advertised in the spring as our year is coming to an end. There are always at least a few openings. But if you're interested before that, just talk to any board member and we will make sure you know when something opens up!

When and where are luncheons?

Our luncheons take place monthly September-May, and they are almost always the 3rd Tuesday of the month from 11-1. Occasionally the schedule will shift, but that is the most common scenario. There is an evening event each year that you can bring your spouse to, and each spring there is a Joint Services Luncheon, which rotates being hosted by Fort Sam, Randolph and Lackland.

Luncheons primarily take place at different restaurants and venues around San Antonio. They sometimes take place on Fort Sam at the Community Center or golf course.

I have kids at home during the day. Can they come along?

Lap babies under 6 months old are welcome to join you. Unfortunately, we do not have an option for kids older than 6 months. We understand that many of you have young kids at home and that may make attending luncheons challenging in this season of life. Some of our sub clubs meet in the evening, so that may be a good option for you!

I thought Spouses' Clubs also raised money for charity but I don't see that here.

Good catch! We used to be one organization, but as we grew we realized we would benefit from splitting into separate organizations, each with their own board. We are a 501(c)(7), a non-profit social organization, and the SCFSH Charitable Organization is a 501(c)(3). They run the thrift store on post and give out grants and scholarships with their proceeds. We are sister organizations and often work together.

That being said, we try to be pretty charitable ourselves though our community outreach program, or with monetary donations whenever we find ourselves with an excess of funds, even if it isn't our organizational purpose.
